According to Context News & The White House, as of May 17, 2025, the US has received 27,308 refugee (the fiscal year began on Oct. 1, 2024).  Statistical data in this year is not as nation specific as other years, but 8,662 from the continent of Africa, 10,003 from the Near East / South Asia, 5,106 from Latin America / the Caribbean, 2,971 from East Asia, & 566 from Europe / Central Asia were were granted refugee status so far in 2025.

According to the Office of Homeland Security Statistics,  as of May 17, 2025, data has not yet been released on how many people have received asylum in the US, but we expect historically low numbers of accepted asylum cases.

According to UNHCR, over 122.6 million people are globally displaced from their homes today. As to key factors in 2025 so far that have caused global displacement,:

(1) Sudan's Civil War that started in 2023 displaced 12 million people, with 9.1 million internally displaced, & 1.7 million seeking refuge in neighboring countries.  

(2) Due to military operations in Gaza, 1.9 million Palestinians have been displaced from their homes.

(3) 11% of Ukraine's population is displaced due to Russia's invasion of their country since 2022.

(4) Ongoing violence in Myanmar in recent years has caused displacement of over 1.3 million people.  

(5) In the DRC, there is renewed fighting that has resulted in 3.8 million new internally displaced peoples since 2023.
