
According to the Department of Homeland Security, 69,975 refugees were admitted into the US with the larger numbers of new arrivals from: Iraq (19,769) Myanmar (14,598), Somalia (9,000), Bhutan (8,434), Democratic Republic of Congo (4,540), Iran (2,846), Eritrea (1,488), Afghanistan (753), Ukraine (490), & Syria (105).
According to Migration Policy Institute, asylum was granted to 23, 533 individuals to the United States in 2014 with the topic nationalities being from: China (7,880), Egypt (2,879), Syria (932), Ethiopia (830), & Iran (636).

(3) The Russian annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula
(4) The Sudanese Civil War
(5) Conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo
(6) Conflicts in the Central African Republic
(7) Rising tensions in Burundi after their election
(8) The persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar
(9) Instability in Somalia due to famine.
